BESITO

It is no secret that I love Mexican food. I could eat some version of it everyday of the week. This love was only solidified when I moved to Texas and was surrounded by some delicious Mexican and Tex-Mex food! Once I relocated to Philadelphia I immediately began seeking out different options to satiate my need for some good Mexican food. I’m so glad I stumbled onto Besito in Ardmore!

What I Ate:
  • Sangria (red) – a blend of red wine, Cointreau, peach liquor, fresh fruit and juices
  • Iced Tea (unsweetened)
  • Queso Fundido – baked queso Chihuahua, rajas, chorizo, cilantro, white onion
  • Tacos de Camarones – crispy shrimp, salsa chipotle crema, salsa molcajete, queso fresco

I stumbled upon Besito by accident one afternoon when I was out in the suburbs running errands. The look of the restaurant caught my attention immediately. It is situated in Suburban Square, which is a shopping area that has a farmer’s market and Trader Joes (my initial reasons for going there). The restaurant is inviting with an outdoor seating area including lounge chairs with a small fire. It was unfortunately terrible weather that day, so I ended up inside.  There are multiple sections with different aesthetics to each space.

I was dying to order the guacamole, which they mix table side, but I was by myself and couldn’t possibly eat that much guacamole on my own (Sad, I know.). I am a sucker for a queso fundido, which isn’t always easy to find in the northeast. Well, it did not disappoint. You can’t go wrong with something that mostly consists of gooey cheeses and chorizo; a form of candy made of meat.

The tacos de camarones were a perfect blend of flavors. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and coated. Squeeze a little lime juice on them and enjoy. I ordered the appetizer size, but there is a version that is available in the entrees section.

I topped it all off with some sangria and iced tea. The sangria wasn’t too sweet, but had a perfect blend of fruits and liqueurs. The iced tea is one of my go to beverages and it was a simple black iced tea, which is exactly what I enjoy. I loved that they served it in a old tequila decanter. It’s the perfect example of the thought they put into their ambience and dishes.

If you’re out in the Ardmore area you should certainly hit up Besito! You won’t be disappointed.
