Who is up for a trip to Jersey City? I mean, I know…what is in Jersey City? It’s close proximity to New York City makes it the perfect place to live for access to the city without Manhattan prices. It also has the closet view of the Statue of Liberty and NYC Skyline from Liberty State Park. But what else is there to do?

Go visit Mana Contemporary of course! An arts center that features contemporary art in an industrial canvas. Mana Contemporary is not just a space to experience exhibitions, but a comprehensive institution that is dedicated to the creative process and built to support artists through both visual and performance arts.

Take the afternoon (or a whole day!) to wander through the bright and spacious galleries. Check the events calendar to see if you can enjoy a performance art exhibition. And don’t forget to wander the halls of the artist studios. Many artists do open houses and are open to talking about or selling their work to those who stop by. Not only is the art amazing, but so is the industrial building space featuring exposed brick and ceilings and long wandering hallways with large windows.

Check out some of my favorite exhibitions below:

Dan Flavin: cornered fluorescent light

Dan Flavin: cornered fluorescent light, is a large-scale installation of works by the Minimalist artist that fills the space of one of Mana’s galleries with radiant color. Flavin worked with the neon commercial product because he wanted to move beyond Abstract Expressionism and Pop.

Andy Warhol: The Original Silkscreens

The expansive selection of silkscreen works by Andy Warhol reflect the personal relationship between the iconic artist and his friend and collaborator, Heiner Friedrich, which began in 1965.

Fred Sandbeck: Sculpture

Fred Sandback is a sculpture artist whose work consists of metal wire, elastic cord and stretched yarn that is built in voluminous space. They create an altered perception of the spaces where they are built.

Did you have a chance to visit Mana Contemporary in Jersey City and dig it? Well, go visit the other locations in Miami and Chicago!
