COUTURE AT THE MONTRÉAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

The museums of Montréal offer something for everybody and for me my first choice is always art — preferably of the contemporary variety. The Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal was closed for installation. Cue dramatic sob and an addition to my itinerary for the next trip.

So, off I ventured to the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), located in the Golden Square Mile neighborhood. The museum features an impressive permanent collection that is spanned across five different buildings. It may feel daunting, but it’s easy to get around and you can easily pick and choose the genre of art that works for you.

PRO TIP: Don’t want to spend any money? Just visit their outdoor sculpture garden!

Make sure you go and see the piece by my favorite James Turrell — he has this lovely light installation in the main building. Worth a view!

Have a thing for couture, high fashion and photography? Well, then get yourself to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) where they are currently presenting the very first exhibition on the work of French creator Thierry Mugler. This installation was created by the MMFA and it reveals the multiple worlds of this artistic creator — a couturier, director, photographer and perfumer.

The installation features over 150 works made from 1970 through 2014; collaborations with world-renowned photographers, artists and set designers it’s certainly a site to be seen. On view through September 8, 2019.
